About the Artist
Hi, I’m Leanna
I’ve been creating for as long as I can remember. I’ve always been curious. As a little girl, I was forever coloring, making things, taking pictures, and wondering, “What if?” I don’t think that part of me ever grew up.
That curiosity eventually led me to photography, where I spent many years behind the camera. I was most inspired by model portfolio development, fashion-inspired editorial work, and expressive high school seniors. I loved creating images filled with mood, personality, and a little bit of unexpected beauty.
Eventually, life reminded me that I needed to slow down. After years of pouring everything I had into my photography business, I found myself needing to step away and focus on my health. I wasn’t looking for a new career—I simply couldn’t imagine a life without creating. So, in December 2019, I picked up a watercolor brush for the first time since high school because I needed to create.
I thought I was just trying something new.
Instead… I became completely obsessed.
Watercolor taught me something I didn’t know I needed to learn. After years of trying to control every detail behind the camera, watercolor invited me to loosen up, embrace the unexpected, and trust the process. It reminded me that some of the most beautiful things happen when we stop chasing perfection.
That lesson didn’t just change the way I create. It changed the way I live.
Today, whether I’m holding a camera or a paintbrush, I’m still searching for the moments that take my breath away. I’m drawn to expressive faces, quirky animals, dramatic coastlines, delicate flowers, and the kind of beauty that’s sometimes overlooked. What catches my eye isn’t always what others would call beautiful. I love personality, character, and the wonderfully imperfect things that make each subject one of a kind.
I hope my work reminds people that beauty doesn’t have to be perfect to be extraordinary.
Watercolor has given me so much more than a creative outlet—it has changed my life. Now one of my greatest joys is sharing that gift with others. I love helping people let go of perfection, trust the process, and discover that they’re capable of creating beautiful things. Watching someone discover the magic of expressive imperfection—and the freedom to create in their own unique way—fills my heart every single time.
These days, when I’m not in the studio, you’ll usually find me spending time with my husband, Richard, our amazing family, three dogs, a demanding cat, and an African Grey parrot who makes sure life is never too quiet.
Thanks for stopping by. I’m so glad you’re here. I hope you leave feeling inspired.
In the Beginning
Every once in a while, I'll come across an old photograph, drawing, or painting tucked away. Each one is a little reminder that every artist starts somewhere, and these are a few of mine.
As I come across them, I'll share those little pieces of my journey here.
