The Magic of Expressive Imperfection —Loose & Expressive Birds in Watercolor
Have you ever wanted to paint birds in watercolor but found all those feathers, shapes, and details a little intimidating—or just weren’t sure where to begin? In this three-class watercolor series, we’ll work from bird references as we explore how to create loose, expressive birds in watercolor. Through demonstrations, guided painting, studies, and fun creative exercises, I’ll share the skills and process I use while encouraging you to loosen up and embrace the magic of expressive imperfection. From soft and subtle to colorful, bold, and full of movement, we’ll explore different ways to interpret birds without painting every feather. This class isn’t about painting the same bird as me. It’s about experimenting, making your own artistic choices, and creating your own interpretation of the bird.
Come ready to make a few beautiful messes and let’s see where watercolor takes us.
A little watercolor experience is recommended, as we’ll be building on basic techniques rather than starting from the very beginning.
